Is it racist that black pets are the least adopted and “ideal” animals tend to be white or tan (like a white rabbit or a golden retriever) while darker animals are considered evil (black dog symbolizing death, black cat symbolizing magic, Scar from The Lion King was like the darkest-coated lion in the series. Is that perhaps racism, or just going with the “darkness is bad, brightness is good” trope? or is that too racist?
It’s a pretty complex debate, and the answer changes depending on how you look at it. Martin Luther King talked about how black was the synonym for evil, however black has been a synonym for evil in several cultures for various reasons. Usually because of an association with deadly and dangerous things in nature like night time, deadly insects and animals with jet black coats, the same way purple and blue are associated with death and sadness because human corpses turn blue, then purple, then black.
Black is also the colour of life in some cultures, because they look at the black things in nature differently. For example, the soil is black and people go into the soil when they die, so black soil is a symbol of rebirth.
It’s definitely not racist that black animals are adopted the least though, since dark hair stands out a lot easier and most animals shed, people just go for tan animals because you can’t notice the fur. It’s also based on what breeds have ideal behavior and what colours those breeds are found in.
The Scar thing could be true though, the Lion King had a lot of racial undertones…whether they were 100% intentional we’ll never know though.
I want to explain something here. These two .gifs are the first flash animations that I had ever made. I did these during my first semester in college in a computer animation class back in 2010. I had no idea what Flash even was.
Now let me just ask you something: Which one looks like it took the most time?
Our assignment was to experiment with Flash on our own, get used to the tools and settings and that sort of thing. I decided to go frame by frame and observed a gif taken from Treasure Planet. The result was that first gif you see up there.
I turned that first gif in to class the next day…and got a failing grade.
“This is not the proper way to use Flash” my teacher said. “Too complicated. This is not what people want to see. No use of tweens. Zero points.”
I was heartbroken to get a zero on my first assignment, so my teacher decided to give me a second chance. “Animate a running stick figure with tweens” the teacher said. So I did. I turned in that 2nd gif you see, and got an A.
To this day I am appalled by the way I was treated. To all of you animators out there, I recommend learning on your own. It could save you time and money. If you still choose to go to college, then that is fine too. You do what you want, just don’t let ANYONE try to downgrade your creative capability.
that’s what you get to going to an animation class which is focused on teaching software and not animation.
this brony is mad because they didn’t kill or brutally beat any ponies in an episode of my little pony
watching this is a truly bizarre experience because you realize that bronies don’t exist in a vacuum on the internet
they are actual people
little girls and boys everywhere would learn so much if they were just shown brutal murder scenes in their cute moral-teaching cartoons
That’s just what this show needs to teach our children: horrible violcnce
oh my fucking god oh my fucking god
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOG
MY BRAIN IS ACTUALLY STRUGGLING TO COMPREHEND HOW MANY HUGE DOGS THERE ARE IN ONE PLACE ITS LIKE IN A VIDEOGAME WHEN YOU SPAWN A BUNCH OF STUFF GOD
Virtual supermarkets are popping up in subway stations in South Korea, where commuters can virtually shop for items while waiting for the train to come. Customers simply scan an item’s QR code using the free “Homeplus” app and can have it delivered to their doorstep before they even get home. Ranked as the 2nd most hard-working country in the world to Japan, South Korea is rewarding its workers with this timesaving gem.
